Choosing FRP products as an alternative to more traditional materials such as galvanised or stainless steel, concrete and wood can bring decisive advantages depending on the field of application and the stakeholders involved.

By way of example, and without being exhaustive:

  • the lightness of the material (on average 75% lighter than the equivalent steel product) makes it particularly useful for designers in all cases where the load on existing structures/foundations needs to be minimised, and also for installers, who can move materials on site without special lifting equipment;
  • the high corrosion resistance, comparable to that of AISI 316 stainless steel, allows designers to offer end clients a solution that meets the requirements of aggressive environments at a more competitive price than stainless steel, and only slightly higher than galvanised steel;
  • the electrical insulation makes it the preferred choice for designers and clients in any application where the risk of electrocution needs to be minimised, while also avoiding the need for an earthing system;
  • the ease of on-site processing, even with unsophisticated equipment, makes this solution preferable for designers and installers in terms of time and cost, as it minimises the need for prior measurement surveys and detailed engineering.
