Railway infrastructure: safety and innovation with FRP

The railway sector is characterised by the presence of high voltage and galvanic currents, factors that call for particular attention to electrical safety and to the reliability of the materials used. M.M.’s FRP products are ideal for this context, thanks to their electrical insulation properties. These products do not require earthing and eliminate the risk of electrocution, ensuring a high level of safety for railway system operators and users.

FRP gratings: tested characteristics

M.M.’s FRP gratings, manufactured under the strictest controls in accordance with DIN 24537-3, are classified as excellent electrical insulators in accordance with EN 61340-2-3 and IEC 61340-4-5. They feature anti-slip properties ranging from R10 to R13 in accordance with DIN 51130.

Applications in the railway sector

M.M. products are used in many areas of railway infrastructure:

Trackside areas and railway embankments: inclined stairways with dedicated small gates, and vertical ladders, provide safe access for maintenance operations.
Maintenance areas: for covering technical pits in depots/workshops and track crossings.
Washing stations: for drainage channels and walking surfaces resistant to detergents and moisture.
Platforms: for covering cable distribution ducts and manholes.
Technical equipment areas: for covering manholes, ducts and their associated vertical ladders, CE marked in accordance with EN 14396.
Stations and level crossings: fences separate railway traffic areas and prevent unauthorised access.

Certifications and approvals

M.M.’s gratings and profiles are approved by the EBA (German Federal Railway Authority) and HPQ certified, a recognition that attests to the high quality and reliability of the materials. Thanks to these certifications, M.M. is able to supply its products to Deutsche Bahn, confirming their suitability even for the most demanding railway projects.
