Environmental labels are voluntary tools that help communicate the environmental characteristics of products or services in a transparent and verifiable way. The reference standard is ISO 14020:2022, which defines three main types of labels:
- Type I Environmental Labels — ISO 14024
These are labels certified by an independent third-party body, based on predefined environmental criteria developed in a transparent manner.
These labels ensure that the product meets high environmental standards throughout its entire life cycle.
- Type II Environmental Labels — ISO 14021
These are voluntary declarations provided directly by the manufacturer, importer or distributor, in the absence of standardised environmental criteria.
They must be verifiable, accurate and not misleading, but do not require third-party certification.
- Type III Environmental Labels — ISO 14025
These contain objective and quantifiable data on the environmental impact of the product, based on a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) study compliant with international standards.
They are verified by accredited bodies and allow for a transparent comparison between similar products.
M.M. has obtained an EPD certification for FRP profiles and an EPD certification for FRP gratings (Type III environmental labels), following a technical process carried out in accordance with the international standards EN 15804 and ISO 14025, enabling transparent and quantified communication of the environmental performance of its products.
