Client: ALGHERO MUNICIPALITY
Location: FERTILIA ALGHERO (SS) - ITALY
Application sector: CYCLING PATH
Objectives
As part of the renewal project of a bridge in Fertilia, located in the surrondings of Alghero, province of Sassari, Sardinia, M.M. has been asked to provide support for the refurbishment of the pedestrian and cycling paths. The following technical performances of the material were required: • Resistance to brackish environment; • Resistance to atmospheric agents and UV rays; • Antiskid safety for pedestrian and cyclists. Alongside the technical performances, the Client required a flooring solution that could harmoniously blend into the surrounding landscape.
Solution
The solution proposed by M.M. for the renovation of the pedestrian and cycling paths includes the use of FRP micromesh gratings, with the special Q-paint finishing. In addition to the safety, ensured by the antiskid properties of the surface, this type of gratings is featured by resistance to brackish environment, UV rays, and temperature leaps. In agreement with the Director of Works, the gratings have been produced in a customized yellow sand-like color. Standard sized panels have been proposed for a quick and easy on-site installation. Proper stainless steel accessories have been used to fasten the panels on the steel supporting structure of the bridge, without requiring any drilling of steel profiles. The use of countersung head screws, appropriately installed, allowed to avoid any projection of metal parts on the surface, to guarantee the utmost safety and comfort of passersby.
