Client: UNIVERSITY OF LAS PALMAS (CANARY ISLANDS GOVERNMENT)
Location: MUELLE DE TALIARTE - GRAN CANARIA - SPAIN
Application sector: GREEN HOUSE COVER
Objectives
The Banco Español de Algas, part of the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, is dedicated to the study and development of cultures of different types of marine algae. For its research activities, the institute required a multipurpose enclosure consisting of large open-plan interior spaces, designed to withstand both external and internal environmental conditions. Due to its proximity to the coast and the environment generated by its covered tanks, the structure is continuously exposed to high salinity, strong wind loads, and significant daily variations in temperature and humidity.
Solution
To meet the Client’s requirements, the technical office of our partner MVA designed a full enclosure for the entire operational site, with a modular perimeter closure system. For the project, a structure made with M.M.’s FRP profiles was used: by fully leveraging the range of our catalog, it was possible to create an interior space with a minimum number of supports and dual-pitched roofs made of polycarbonate panels mounted on purlins, also manufactured with our profiles. The great ease of processing offered by our frp profiles -both in terms of assembly simplicity and the geometric variety of the profile range—made it possible to build an open structure that can be closed around the perimeter as required by the Client. The result is a structure highly resistant to corrosion, fatigue, and heavy wind loads, yet lightweight, modular, and quick and easy to assemble. The advantages of M.M.’s FRP profiles translate into significant maintenance cost savings and maximum flexibility of use for the Client, while for our partner MVA they mean faster assembly and minimal transport and labor costs.
