Client: A&T EUROPE
Location: MUNICH, - GERMANY
Application sector: WALKWAY FOR SURF WAVE POOL
Objectives
The project involved the construction of the largest surf wave pool in Europe. The Client required an innovative solution for the walkway flooring, designed to cover a long multi-curved channel essential for collecting and recirculating the water that generates artificial waves. The goal was to define a surface capable of ensuring safety and comfort: slip-resistant, suitable for direct contact with bare feet, with a mesh small enough to guarantee stability and comfort, yet sufficiently open to allow the proper flow of the project’s water volume. The colour needed to harmonize with the architectural context of the pool, while the panels had to be produced in the largest possible dimensions, minimizing joints, and equipped with flush fixing systems to ensure both aesthetic and functional continuity.
Solution
The chosen solution was the use of moulded fiberglass panels with micro-mesh and white Q-Paint finish. The surface was treated with fine-grain sand and protected with a glossy polyurethane top coat, ensuring slip resistance, wear resistance, and adequate thickness for the project’s load requirements. Starting from the survey of civil works and the supporting metal structure, the grating panels – covering a total area of over 1,100 sqm – were modelled in a 3D environment, with the aim of optimizing every geometric detail and accounting for all necessary machining to minimize joints. The process was carried out in constant and fruitful collaboration with the Client’s technical office, ensuring a functional, safe, and aesthetically integrated result within the pool’s architectural context.
