Client: MM SPA
Location: MILANO - ITALY
Application sector: WASTE WATER TREATMENT PLANT
Objectives
The client needed to replace several severely deteriorated or rusted metal structures, which either posed a safety risk or were no longer compliant with regulations. The replacement was part of a multi-year upgrade plan covering the majority of the 80 potable water treatment plant stations in Milan. The goal was to implement a maintenance-free system to reduce costs and service interruptions. The stations, spread throughout Milan, had varying characteristics: some were outdoors, others indoors, sometimes with restricted access points, making the transport of new structures challenging and on-site welding impractical. By issuing a tender for the supply and installation of FRP structures and walkways, the client sought a single partner for the project’s design, production and installation, as well as disposal of the existing structures.
Solution
M.M. designed and installed handrails, ladders and stairways, open mesh flooring and covers, as well as non-slip FRP coverings, ensuring over 20 years of maintenance-free durability in humid environments. To manage the entire process, M.M. put together a multi-departmental team, which also performed on-site surveys and prepared a detailed 3D design of the FRP solutions. The delivery method was adapted on a case-by-case basis, depending on site accessibility. The installation, planned in collaboration with the client, minimised intervention times and service interruptions, allowing plant upgrade works to be performed at the same time. M.M.’s Project Manager coordinated activities and document management, including safety aspects, in compliance with the procedures outlined in the contract.
