Client: CONSULTING AND MAINTENANCE SERVICES COMPANY FOR AN INTERNATIONAL GROUP ACTIVE IN NATURAL GAS EXTRACTION
Location: SABRATHA - LIBYA
Application sector: NATURAL GAS EXTRACTION SITE
Objectives
The client was looking for an alternative to traditional metal gratings, which need constant maintenance and have to be frequently replaced, due to their low resistance to sea water which causes a rapid deterioration of metal gratings with rust formation and a subsequent significant worsening of their properties, making walking surfaces extremely dangerous.
Solution
M.M. addressed this requirement by supplying its client with 450 m² of SCH 38/38_IFR FRP grating panels in grey, along with FRP angle fasteners. FRP products are the ideal solution for all applications in direct contact with seawater, as no salt deposits form on the material (as demonstrated by tests carried out by M.M. in collaboration with the University of Tor Vergata in Rome). This prevents corrosion-related issues and significantly extends the service life of the structures. M.M.’s polyester resin gratings reinforced with fiberglass are certified for long-term durability in compliance with UNI EN ISO 9142/04. By choosing this material, the client company aimed to eliminate maintenance costs without compromising safety: in fact, all walkable surfaces were manufactured with anti-slip finishes, achieving R13 V10 rating in accordance with DIN 51130.
