Client: LEADING COMPANY DEALING WITH TELECOMMUNICATIONS
Location: MARCHE - ITALY
Application sector: TRANSMISSION ANTENNA CABLE DUCT
Objectives
As part of a broad maintenance plan for the work site, the client looks into the possibility of substituting the coverings of the cable ducts made of concrete which lie between the station and the transmitting antenna, placed at a higher elevation. Most of the parts, in fact, have a functional deterioration and show fractures, caused by mechanical action and by adverse and cyclical weather conditions. Due to the specific needs, and to adopt a final solution, the client focuses on a different type of material rather than the pre-existing one. A material which features the best mechanical characteristics considering the design load, and which stays stable at temperature changes, extremely resistant to U.V. rays, to harsh weather conditions, and in any case, maintenance free. In view of the position, and the non-straight path of the duct, its gradient of slope, the unevenness of the sides, the client chooses a product which must be light-weight, easy to handle; which could be shaped on site, along with other ideal characteristics.
Solution
The client finds in M.M. a valuable collaborator and the choice falls on FRP, since the client is convinced by the excellent features regarding mechanical resistance, and long-time lasting along with a considerable lightweight and the possibility to work the material directly at the worksite. Considering the requests, the photos and measurements taken on site, M.M. identifies the ideal product, checking on the structural suitability on the basis of the anchoring points and keeping the quality at the highest level, choosing the best nesting plan in relation to the production formats available. Taking advantage of the possibility to cut and shape the material on site, which was indeed important, it was possible to modify the design during the procedure of setting down the covers. In order to ensure a better stability, it was decided to install the covers inside the existing concrete walls, instead of using the latter as support for the FRP elements, as originally planned. As in all other situations in which M.M. is involved, the Company demonstrates to be capable of satisfying the requests with tailor-made products and solutions, selected and put together, one at a time, according to the specific needs and requirements of the client.
